Legislative Events

One of the best ways we can protect our homeschool freedoms is to become familiar with our elected legislators and develop good relationships with them. We can let them know who to call when they see legislation appearing that might affect our home-based instruction law. A brief personal meeting goes a long way towards establishing good working relationships with these hard-working public servants. You can find information to help you contact your legislators at http://apps.leg.wa.gov/DistrictFinder/Default.aspx.  Make an appointment ahead of time to meet with them, introduce yourself and your children, learn about the bills they're working on, express your opinions, and thank them for their work.

During the legislative session, WHO organizes an event called WHO Day at the Capitol.  It usually includes a tour of the Capitol buildings, watching legislative proceedings from the gallery, learning about legislation affecting homeschooling during the session, and then meeting individually with your senators and representatives. These tours are very popular and the one on April 14 2009 was full!

Join us and together we will learn about the civic process, enjoy the beauty and history of our Capitol building, and encourage our legislators to uphold the homeschooling law we all enjoy and cherish.
